Ship Combat

Until Morale Improves the Beatings Will Continue!

(Ship Combat in the Drowned World)

Ship combat should be fairly common in a world like H2O-Pocalypse so you might find it odd that I decided not to add it in the zine. This was because there are already a ton of great games with amazing rules for just that! Such as Pirate Borg, The Rules of Engagement a DCC supplement for Ship combat, or the post-apocalyptic vibes of Vehicle Mayhem for DCC. After finding out some super rad person online made a Gaslands conversion with boats! I started crafting right away! Of course, I jumped face-first into the game.  But you're here to read about the Adder take on ship combat!

Blood on the Waves

Ship combat should be cinematic and fun, I always think about that one A-Team movie in the Early 00s when they flew a tank by firing the cannon, this is the kind of BS I imagine PCs pulling in H2O!

Every ship comes equipped with a nav crystal and a Hydro Canon (d12 Ship Damage 120 ft range) The Hydro Cannon is a Weapon made to shoot high-pressured sea water so it never runs out of ammo.

Ship Damage: Only a weapon marked with "Ship Damage" can damage a ship's hull. If a Weapon with Ship Damage hits a person or creature, the hit is an automatic d30 crit on Table G.

Attacking with Ship Weapons: Choose a punk to fire the weapon and roll a d20 + Agility Mod any attack over 10 and over will hit on a 1 the weapon breaks.

Actions

(The first Action must always be to move, most ships have 2 actions. The crew action happens at the end of the ship's action)

1. Move
2. Turn ship 45 degrees
3. Do a dope trick! Make an agility test for handling. (This game is not Master and Commander, go crazy!)
4. Fire Hydro Cannon or other Ship Weapon.
5. Repair ( DC 15 Intelligence, -2 to DC for every crew member spending their crew action on repair. Roll d10 for repaired Hull points)
Crew Actions

1. Turn the ship more than 45 Degrees. Base DC 15 Agility check depending on the angle and swell.
2. Repair ship
3. Make an attack.
4. Move / Board
5. Shred
6. Work the sail (decrease DC for handling checks)

Movement
Depending on their size ships can move their length a certain time per round, this is called "Movement".

Ship Point

(Ship Points or SP, denotes the health of the ship, a ship can only take SP damage from "Ship Damage" weapons. When a ship takes damage after its Ship points are depleted or whenever an attack doing Ship Damage rolls a crit on the ship, roll a d6 on the FUBAR table. A ship can only roll on the FUBAR Table 3 times before it is destroyed beyond repair)

Ships

1. Small Ships (most ships) - 25 SP Ship Price: 100 Gizmos 3 Movement Up to 6 Crew 1 Ship Damage Weapon
2. Medium Ships - 45 SP Ship Price: 200 Gizmos
2 Movement Up to 12 Crew 2 Ship Damage Weapon
3. Big Ships - 75 SP Ship Price: 400 Gizmos 1 Movement Up to 24 Crew 4 Ship Damage Weapon

FUBAR

(d6)
(Resources, Creative thinking, and usually a trip to a Junk Lord are needed to fix FUBARs)

1. Ship is -10 SP permanently!
2. Hydro Cannon is busted!
3. The Sail is damaged!
4. The Nav Crystal is damaged!
5. All the noise Summoned a Megdapus!
6. A random crew member takes the damage instead.

Weather

(To test for weather roll a d6 on a 6 roll a d4 to see what bad weather is ahead!)

1. Huge Swells!
2. Dense fog!
3. Crazy winds!
4. Acid rain!

Wind

(d9)
(If a ship is facing with the wind at its back, it has a -2 DC to all agility test for handling. While the ship is in this favorable condition if all crew members "man the sails" during their crew action, the ship can make an extra move during its turn, once in an encounter.)

1. North
3. North West
4. North East
5. West
6. East
7. South 8. South West 9. South East

The Story of Rebel Rita

Rebel Rita born Trevor Stanza in the Spires, like many non-conforming citizens was forcefully ejected from the Spires in a mass removal event the Spires called Trash Day. She established the barges and first trade routes, organized raids on Spire ships, and inspired the search for dry land. Although Rita hasn't been seen in many years hope for her return remains. Some say she found dry land and has left clues behind on how to find it.

The Rebel Rumble ( Celebrated on Spire Trash Day)  is celebrated every year in her honor, with Ship battles and races, Junk Bot fight Tournaments, and of course battles of the bands.

Every Hydropunk ship's flag is called a Rebal Rita, as a testament to the unwavering spirit of the Outer folk and their push against the Spires!

Hoist the Rebel Rita!
